Summary
A who's who collection of contemporary poets saying goodbye to the 20th century and hello to the next millennium. The reader should not expect hopeful or sweetly elegiac verse. The selections are often tough, political, beautifully written, and represent editor Codrescu's wide embrace of styles. Here, unlike in more narrow anthologies, both Charles Bukoski and Tom Clark are welcomed to sing in their chosen form and manner which makes for delightful variation in the volume's tone and texture. The 100 poets definitely provoke thoughtfulness on the state of the world<-->maybe the best offering we can make to the new millennium. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
